urgent help needed formatting hdd

hi, i know you are all going to think i'm a total idiot but i need your knowledge to help me out.
i was given a windows 7 beta disc by a so called friend who has now strangely disappeared.
he said install and everything would be perfect, it's just screwed up my laptop (acer aspire 6920g)
i have the recovery discs but cannot use as windows 7 wont let it.
i cannot re-format the HDD even with the windows 7 disc he gave to me.
can anyone help me as the laptop was a gift from my wife and she is even less impressed than i am !!!

If you down load this it will wipe your HD completely and the you will be able to install your original OS.

have reinstalled my vista but cannot use the backup discs from acer to restore everything. instead of having 1080p my display is like a 'puter from 10 years ago !! in fact, everything that was nice on the laptop is now gone but i'm trying to download everything again from the acer site directly.....one by one.
i live in hope !!
will never let my curiosity get the better of me again unless i run it by you guy's in the future !!

hi,
i managed to re-format my hd. i used killdisk from the link supplied to me.
i downloaded most of the drivers from the acer site but still have a few issues, ie internal hi-def audio bus, card reader.
i have emailed them asking for a copy of the discs. i'm hoping they will not charge me as i burned the back-ups myself as they said i should but they will not work at all, only the vista installed again.
