Hey, I have a problem with loading my operating system upon start-up. Whenever I turn on the computer, I get a message saying there is an "Verifying DMI Pool Data......"Error loading operating system" with a black screen and just that text. The computer then wont load into anything else, it will just stay at that screen. I would like to know whats wrong and how I could fix it, if anyone could help me.

likely to be a corrupted MBR and/or bootsector.

    Got an XP CD handy?

Fixmbr and fixboot are the programs you are going to want. Now, if you installed XP on an older that computer that required a drive overlay, STOP.

    Reinstall the drive overlay instead.

First hope would be a floppy or cd in a drive. Possibly corrupted boot files or BIOS, BIOS settings. Loose connection on the hard disk drive, or failed hardware. I would try a Linux live CD to check the boot.ini and to see if the system will boot that way. You could possibly disconnect and reconnect the hard disk drive or drives, and check the boot order putting the CD, (optical) drive first and the master hard disk drive (should be C drive for Windows) second, or reset the BIOS to its default settings. Some system BIOS have a pass fail check for the hard disk drive.
    Bug

If you are suggesting using a LiveCD to fix a boot.ini (although the bootsector isn't even being reached), then you should feel obligated to explain how to. Please elaborate on your advice.

    Thank you :)
