urgent information request

hello all. I would like to ask a question, if that is possible. I'm interested in aquiring a server, but I lack the technical knowledge required to build it. I was provided with a configuration by the local computer tech, and I stumbled upon something. it might be nothing though. so I decided to ask here for help.
the cpu for the server is supposed to be Intel XEON 3.0 GHz L2 cache 512kb. someone said that Intel discontinued production of this product. is that so? I searched the net for this information, but I had no luck. if they discontinued it, I would like to know the date. I posted an information request on the Intel site, but I fear it will be too long before I get an answer...
any help would be apreciated. thanks.

The xeon is a p4 glorified its still available to my knowledge and usually intel wont discontinue a cpu unless its out of date or there were numerous problems.

 

thanks for the reply. one dealer I have contacted mentioned that this particular cpu, with L2 at 512kb can no longer be provided. that is where my problem was. question is, is the dealer trying to get me to cough up the dough?

 

Most likely I looked it up where I purchase my stuff and it list and shows stock people always trying to make a dollar.

 

Intel did release a 64 bit model xeon MP 4 to 8 mb cache 1mb speed cache quite fast but with a price tag to match

 

Now intel has three versions the xeon, xeon DP , and xeon MP one runs single the other dual and the last multi they will al run single but for the price wouldnt be effective.
