Dear community, I am experiencing a problem with my laptop
and I shall send out great karma to anyone that can help.

    Model: Acer 6530G Laptop
    Operating System: Win 7

Last night I uninstalled Adobe Reader.
    I then installed Foxit pdf.
I shut down the computer later on.
Before the computer shut down, it installed windows update config. I have a feeling that the computer died before it finished installing updates.

Now when I start the comp I select my user account, and it shows:

    1) Windows explorer has stopped working
    2) Host process for windows tasks has stopped working

Then I get a blue screen with no cursor of folders or anything. I tried safe mode with networking. It takes me into windows and and then I can see the start, my folders etc. but I cant load anything such as a folder, file or program.
    Please can anyone help?

    Costa

If you have a smartphone with a camera, can you take a picture of what the blue screen states, and post it on here.

If you have a flikr account, you can upload them there, then link here, same with facebook. Also, on your phone, you can change the settings of the picture size, so that is another option.

What does Event Viewer in Administrative Tools show under System log. The error you posted could be anything causing task manager to stop. That would not be what is causing your issue.

If you uninstall Foxit, what happens when you use the machine? Also what version of Foxit are you using, how much RAM does this machine have in it?

Looks like you are not alone with Foxit causing systems to freeze, when using. If you use Chrome or Firefox, they have a built in pdf reader. Personally I would stick with Adobe Acrobat, since it is tried and true, and like foxit, also has its own issues, but a lot of times, it comes down to a bad pdf.

You can also try Nuance's free pdf reader http://www.nuance.com/products/pdf-reader/index.htm

I am not familiar with these settings, please guide me

    1) "Event Viewer in Administrative Tools under System log", how do i access this?

    2) Also, Can i uninstall Foxit if i can't run windows successfully?

    3) I am afraid i don't know what version i am using as i can't access windows to find out.

    4) I think "Up to 2 GB of DDR2 667 MHz memory"

Press and hold the left Windows key, then press the 'R' key. You will get a box/window that will state "Run" at the top. Copy & Paste the following in the box: %windir%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s

From there, you will get the event viewer window, and then just click on Windows Logs, then System, and that will show any system errors. You can also choose Applications, and it will show any errors that applications have been giving.

2GB is not much memory, but enough for Windows 7 to work with.

    hello costak...

Do you have an installation disk for your version of Windows? If you have a MS installation disk for your laptop, you can run a startup repair installation...

I haven't used this, but I have heard good things about it:

    http://www.avira.com/en/download/product/avira-antivir-rescue-system

Not that you have a virus, but sometimes running something prior to boot can joggle the OS back to its senses. Also, you might have something there...

Thanks for the info brownizs and AtlBo.

Holding down the windows key and R do nothing.

I found out my wife's friend is a computer programmer, he tells me to bring it to his house and he can run a windows 7 boot disk. I do not have an MS installation disk.

Regarding the rescue programme, i don't know it well enough to trust it plus i am very far from being a competent computer technician. This guy i am seeing seems to be good. Hopefully he will be able to repair it.

I'll let u know what happens

    Thanks guys

By all means, if you get a chance, please drop back by and pass on the knowledge. You can start by telling us how to befriend a PC tech...

Thank god my computer is finally working!!!

The computer technician was a very lucky find, i had played no part in that luck. My wife did.

My computer friend told me that when i pulled the power cable out of the computer whilst it was configuring windows updates, i screwed it up. He didn't seem to think it had anything to with installing fox it pdf or uninstalling adobe reader. So he extracted my data files to an external hard drive and then reformatted my computer. He then told me off rightly so; the computer tookt 3 hours to put right! Now it works, back to basics.

Lesson learnt, when i leave the house in a rush and i want to disconnect the computer from the power supply, make sure i select the option for shut down without installing updates. Plus i have learnt how to back up my data properly and to take a "saved image state". Also making a system repair disk in case of a problem in the future again.

Thanks for the help and suggestions brownizs's & AtlBo

You are an inspiration to me, have a great day guys!!!!
