Please can somone give me some advice, my daughter is at college and is about to do her finals and she saved her work from her pc and put it on her pen drive to take into college. When she tried to open it, it says its corrupt. The technicians there tried a few programs to retrieve the files with out any joy. She has weeks of work stored on the there and only has half the time to re do if she can but of course alot of the stuff like the pictures she took for the course are lost and cant be replaced.

Has anyone ever had this happen to them and is there some miracle that might just help to get them back. I have searched the internet and looked at all of your recovery list on here. but as said some where used by the college. and i dont want to keep paying lots of money for something that does not work. Of course i dont mind paying if i know its got a very high chance of retrieval.

    Many thanks

    Hi shell,

I've had to recover data from a couple of pen drives with the same problem. I also tried most of the software here to no avail. I then used RecoverMyFiles, which I had previously installed and it did the job (as it has on many occasions since) warning - it costs $$.

But - I'd like you to try Partition Find and Mount as recently recommended by dlb. I think it should be the right tool for you - and it's freeware ^^

    Good luck.

    Hi

I have just downloaded the program but it wont work on my pc i think this has something to do with the fact that i run a 64 bit vista premium as this happens quite a lot. It says something about the driver is not signed. and wont run on this type of windows.

    Many thanks

Why isn't it still on the PC? ... surely she would have just copied it to the pen drive, not cut and paste? And even if so, tell her not to use the PC and have a go at recovering from the PC with undelete plus or similar??

Sorry shell, looks like our last postings crossed.

I've never used x64 platform so I don't know any specifics. If the problem is just driver signing, you may be able to safely ignore it. Can you try to run the installer as Administrator?

@ semiartificial, in the original post shell said "The technicians there tried a few programs to retrieve the files with out any joy.", I assumed that meant they had tried 'normal' undelete progs.

yeah, I was reading it that the technicians were trying to work on the pen drive, not the PC itself ... seems weird that she's done work for several weeks without a problem on the PC, and then just as she copies it to a pen drive, the whole shebang corrupts ...

    Hi

So sorry been long while getting back to you all, but few things have gone on this end.

Right my daughter has her pc at home which was playing about, so she made sure that she put all her work on the pen drive as she would need it anyway at college. This has been working fine for the last few months doing it this way. though the other week the pc was really playing about so had to get the technicians in and they ended up doing a factory restore, as she had all the stuff on her pen drive she was happy with this. The pen drive worked for a further week and then when she was at college it would not open and said Pen drive corrupt. The technicians at the college tried several programs to try to do the pen drive but could not get it to work. Hence the reason that she cant get it back off her pc and now all the work pictures she had on her pen drive is lost.

She was doing what she thought best and backing everything up. she had no alternative but to wipe her harddrive and restore back to factory settings. Pc world said it was NOT a virus but it was a problem with a disk drive that was causing the problems so they put a new disk drive in.

We have tried this programe on her pc now that she has it back. it downloads but wen she puts the pen drive in it dose not do anything. We have tried the programe to see if it would pick anything up on the pc even though its been set back to factory restore and nothing on that either.

    many thanks

If the drive was replaced there will be nothing left on the PC ...

Perhaps i did not make myself clear. it was not the hard drive that was replaced it was the disk drive d, the door would not open and shut nor read the cd prop.

That is why also that my daughter backed up her files on the pen drive as she could not do it on a cd! after the pc was repaired the pen drive still worked for a while it was only when she put the pen drive in at the college that it said corrupt!

    many thanks

Ah ok ... because you have Vista, if you right click on the file there will be a tab there that says Previous Versions ... see if you can restore any of them?

    Hi

No we tried that an unless we did something wrong could not even see what you were saying. Im taking it you mean the file on the pen drive but we cant but went into my computer and right clicked the drive where the pen drive was in and could not see anything there. it would not let us do it any other way as could not get to files because of the warning.

    many thanks

I'm not sure if I can help you much more ...

Try this ... dload THIS from snapfiles. It's a restoration utility with barely any footprint and you don't have to install it. It's the only one I'm familiar with which is why I led you to it.

Just run it, select the drive you wish to run it on. Assuming you use MS Word, type .doc for 2003 and earlier and .docx for 2007 in the search bar. Then click search deleted files. When you find something thats named the same as what you're looking for, select it and press Restore by Copying. It will then let you browse for a place to restore it to. DO NOT restore it back to the USB drive as you may overwrite the original data. Restore it back to the HDD and try restoring all entries of this document you find.
