I'm looking to purchase a 1 gig USB flash drive that MUST operate on USB 1.1 and W98SE. Also must work if plugged into XP on other PC's

3 that I have researched. Anyone used these on W98SE and USB 1.1?
I know I will need drivers for W98SE and that USB 1.1 is slower than USB 2.0

Any others you recommend, that WILL work with my specs?

Price to be around USD$75 that equates to around AUD$100 plus shipping.

Actual reviews from those using W98SE would be really appreciated. Bazza

I've got a JumpDrive Elite drive, but it's just 256MB. I haven't had any problems with it on Win98 or XP. (Other than trying to figure out how to get the drivers on a 98 machine w/o using the internet and no floppies on hand... )

Some of the computers I work on that have front USB ports have them in a location that some of the larger drives won't fit and require either reaching behind to insert it or getting an extension cable to use the front port. It looks like the three you've listed should fit the front ports on all. I'm just letting you know in case you get some other reccomendations...

And now that the prices are falling, I may be interested in your findings as well.

    Happy searching :)

I'd go with the popular Lexar Sport-- you can beat that price range with current sales and rebates. It's slim and straight, which should facilitate insertion into most any USB port. It, like the others, should be backwards compatible with USB 1.1-- the OS may complain about "high speed device in a low speed whatever", but it will still work, just slower. And you can get the companion mp3 player to plug it into, too.

Thanks to TheDoug, Noahawk and Colemanguy for your replies.

To TheDoug, any sites you recommend to take advantage of rebates? Do they honour rebates to Australian customers?

To Colemanguy, thanks for the link.

Because of Christmas and upcoming vehicle registration fees, it will be early Jan 2005 before I can afford it. Keep the recommendations, links and prices coming folks. All info is appreciated. Bazza

They seem to be on backorder from several sites. I'm waiting on one from Dell, who had it for $61USD last month, and I'll end up not qualifying for the additional $20 rebate by the time it eventually ships. :( eCost is currently in a similar situation-- rebate but no product to ship. As to rebates valid in Oz, their form says valid to US residents with US addresses. :(
