    Hi,

I have recently had to completely wipe my entire PC clean because of a bad virus and have re-installed Windows, as well as all my essential programs etc.
As i was installing my MP3 player the yellow box popped up saying that the device could perform faster if it were a USB 2.0 port.

Now before the reformatting of the PC this USB port, as well as the 3 alongside it, were all USB 2.0. But now they seem to be 1.0's

    Any help is much appreciated,
    Thanks

Sounds like you need to reinstall the chipset drivers lost in the reformat. Do you know the make and model of your motherboard?

Did you re-install your motherboard chipset drivers as they are needed for USB2.0 to be recognised?

yea on the driver disk i try to install the usb 2.0 drivers and it gives me this little popup that says something to the point that USB 2.0 is already supported by XP sp2.

OK.. open Device Manager and Click USB Controllers and do any state the word "enhanced"?

Chipset drivers are different to USB2.0 drivers that you mention, to properly enable USB2.0 in most cases the chipset drivers in your case the Intel Chipset driver need to be installed.

If it worked before the re-format you are missing a driver somewhere, also check your Bios for any USB2.0 setting, it shouldnt have been changed by a re-install but worth a check, just to see if you have a USB2.0 enabled option.
