usb 1.1 is so frustratingly slow. and just as equally frustrating is getting 2.0 to work on my system.

    I have a socket a asus a7n8x-e deluxe

I have tried the following procedures with no luck:

made sure it was enabled in BIOS
    reinstalled nforce drivers
deleted from device manager and restarted computer

I've had this system for over a year and I'm not sure if usb 2.0 has ever worked previously on the system, because i never needed it before. Now I recently purchased an external hd for backup/storage, and a 20gb mp3 player. Transferring files seems to take forever.

I have a pretty recent install of xp sp2 integrated. i formatted and reinstalled about 2-3 weeks ago.

here's what my device manager looks like.

Sometimes the motherboard comes with a cd that has the appropriate usb drivers. Have you tried checking to see if there are usb drivers for your motherboard on the Asus website?

    then click [Properties].
    7. Click [Driver] tab.

    9. Choose [Install from a list or specific location].
    10. Click [Next].
    11. Choose [Include this location in the search].
    12. Click [Browse] to specify the file path where the driver is,
e.g. "X:\Drivers\USB2\XP"( X is the drive you put the support CD).

That's because the Standard OpenHCD USB Controller (driver) was already installed, you will have to uninstall those first. Your system may redetect usb hardware which then you can direct/browse to your driver cd. If it doesn't automatically redetect hardware you can scan (start menu>settings>control panel>add hardware) for new hardware.
