    Help? haha

Already tried all the so called "Microsoft Fix-Its" for USB, Hardware and Device Manager problems (a plethora of them). Even bought a program called DriverMagician for near 40 dollars, which updated a bunch of my drivers but the usb 2.0 ports still do not work.

I've tried, DriverMax, Driver Genius Pro and a few others.

I tried the obvious ones, uninstalling in device manager rescanning/ that didn't work so I did the same and restarted, nope. Powering down taking out the battery & holding power for 30 seconds does nothing. The only port that does work is my Reneasance 3.0 port. According to Device Manager all my USB ports, intel chipset and usb mass hubs are installed, working fine and cannot be updated via driver magician or the sorry excuse for "windows update" (which lets be honest, NEVER updates anything non-microsoft LOL)

BTW I'm running Windows 7 (x64) with an Intel Core i7
Specific model is Toshiba Satellite 9755-S5390. I updated the internal HD to a 500 GB Seagate Momentus XT (not sure on the exact model I could get it if needed) when I bought the unit.

This is a major problem for me as I have a home recording studio, and my new (used before with no problems, never changed settings in Reaper infact I upgraded to a paid version and I never changed chords used or their position) Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 Preamp. Same thing with the drivers here - already updated/uninstalled rebooted, did a fresh install, all do not fix the problem.

The weirdest part is, it sort of works... the problem being WHILE recording audio - I cannot hear myself through the KRK's (monitor headphones) but if I record a whole verse, it comes through on Reaper recorded and WILL playback in the headphones - makes no sense. The microphone works, chords were checked, the Headphones work on other machines/programs like itunes and FL Studio. You NEEED to be able to hear yourself in the booth to make anything sound good, its essential.

There ARE two "unknown devices" but neither drivermagician or windows update has a driver for them. And when I do the rescan, they come up as USB hubs, but then windows re-installs them, and they show up as installed under the USB section of Device Manager - but the "unknown devices" are still there. Which leads me to believe I either have the WRONG USB drivers installed or there is some sort of identification problem going on.

There are alot of greyed out (literally Hundreds in the generic volume/shadow copy volume section) entries. I removed all the ones in the USB section to see if that would help ( incase it was a This USB slot has a preference for my PNY stick drive Vs. the Focusrite or something stupid like that - but that did nothing).

It seem nothing short of buying a huge backup drive and backing up all my info - then sending it to Staples to get fixed (bought the super expensive even if you throw it against the wall we'll fix it warranty LOL). but that takes 2-3 weeks, I can't be out of touch with my producers and more importantly my writing/recording/production. Thats a LONG time.

Any help would be appreciated, I'm pretty tech savvy, so hit me with you best haha.

Heres a picture of my Device Manager with the USB section open and the 'unknown devices' windows up - so you can tell more what I'm talking about

and yeah, hitting update driver does nothing haha. Also my webcam/microphone (for the webcam) do not work. But I don't care never used them anyway, I just need to be able to record - the sooner the better. ANY help would be appreciated. All the updates on the Toshiba website did not help, I installed 99% of them.

On a side note, what of this crapware do I need and don't need for this Satelitte seems like theres a MILLION borderline useless toshiba processes running

THANK YOU in advance for any help. If you think I should bring this to another forum for better help - like the Reaper / Focusrite forums please let me know. I just figured the you guys could help me out more than the companies (so much red-tape automated emails/phone calls and the forums are rather unreliable for answers).

    Much love

Being that no one else has replied, I'll give it a shot. From reading your post several times, it seems as if you have already tried what most would suggest. No guarantees!

If I understand correctly, USB 2.0 stopped working, while 3.0 does? Please unplug all USB devices from the computer and boot into safe mode. While in safe mode, delete all USB devices including the two unknown ones. Deleting these in safe mode makes a small difference in some systems. Reboot in normal mode and let Windows find and install the drivers. Check and see if the two unknown devices are still there. Hopefully they won't show up.

If the two unknown devices still show up and the system doesn't work as expected, then you may need to back up your data and consider a reinstall of the OS. Barring a hardware failure, this is the only way that I have found to restore USB function on some systems.

I'm sure that others will reply with possible better solutions/answers. :)
