USB 2.0 port downgrade???

alright so i recently received a new hdd i formatted and installed XP completely and now when plug in any usb cord for any type of hardware, it gives me that bubble that about running faster on usb 2.0 port when my Sony VAIO originally had USB 2.0 ports. i don't understand what is the problem and how i can fix this. The usb ports are working but why not at their original speed???any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you

I had the same thing until I realized that neither of my MBs in Home Builts were runing USB2. I found the driver on the CDs that came with the boards. Why the heck didn't they load when the MB drivers were automatically loaded? I'm now cruising at USB2 on both machines.

i don't get it though. i had formatted my PC with WinXP disc before and that never happened. Now that i want to format and use another HDD on it this suddenly occurs??? also, it seems that i have to pay Sony to make a factory disc for setup, unless there a universal driver disc for usb port upgrade.

I forgot to mention that the problem I had was with 98SE. It doesn't know USB2. I too have loaded XP on many different comps and never had a problem with getting USB2. Maybe a reload would do it.

The HD shouldn't make any difference. Maybe try and download the motherboard driver for your Vaio model from Sony's site and see if that includes the 2.0 USB driver.
