Usb 2.0

I currently have USB 1.1 -What do I need to do to upgrade to USB 2.0?
Is is a simple PCI card? iIs it dependant on my Mobo? (please see my PC specs in my signature).
I'm gonna double post this into the Hardware Forum -I know that it is a hardware issue but I was hoping that the problemn would be ubiquitous enough that it might bleed into the Software forum.

It's solely a HW question.

USB is by default part of the motherbaord. So if you want to upgrade it you need a new motherboard and this usually means a new CPU as well. Which is basicly like just buying a new computer.

You can buy PCI cards as well. Of course they're slower then normal USB2.0 but still faster then using USB1.1. Just so you know the only diffrence from USB1.1 to USB2.0 is speed. Anything that works with USB2.0 will still work just fine on USB1.1

 

So you're saying that my current Hardware CAN'T be upgraded to USB 2.0? -or Firewire?
-So I need a new Mobo -or PC?

Like I said, you can buy a PCI card. It will work. You can't change out the exsisting ports though. Also cards are slower then getting it onboard.

There are firewire and USB cards. Although it's not really an upgrade, it's more of an addition since nothing would be removed or changed.

 

Basically USB 1.0 and USB 2.0 are different standards. USB 2.0 is backwards compatible, but if you have USB 1.0 or 1.1 the only way to upgrade to USB 2.0 is to update your hardware to one that supports it.

This means that you could buy a new motherboard (the majority of which come with USB 2.0 as standard), or use your existing MB and just have the USB technology at a lower speed. When hardware says that it is USB 2.0 compatible it just means that it can run up to 2.0's speeds.
