USB Adapter for Cable Modem

My cable modem connects to my computer via a port similar to a phone jack (I'm not sure what thats called). Now I just got a laptop and the internet port on it is a USB. Are there adapters that allows this phone-jack type cord to plug into a USB port? If so, what exactly are they called?

 

Your internet connection is not usb, you should get an ethernet cable with what ever modem you use, that will fit that port, if using dial up, you more than likely know where it goes. ed

 

Yes, there are adapters that plug into the USB port that 'turn in to' ethernet ports. They're pretty common and any decent PC shop should have 'em or be able to tell you where to get one. They retail anywhere from $15 to $30 or so depending on the shop. Be sure it's USB 2.0 to 10/100 Ethernet for best performance and compatability...

Im curios to know what brand of laptop this is, never seen one with no ethernet port. ed

 

Its not dial up, its a cable modem.

Its a Dell Latitude, and by the way, I'm not familiar with all the terminology, but what is an "ehternet port" exactly.

 

An ethernet port looks like a phone jack, only bigger. You'd run a cable from the ethernet port to the cable modem. If you look on the cable modem, you'll see what looks like a phone jack but bigger; that's the ethernet cable port.

Many Cable modem's have both USB & Ethernet (RJ45) ports

Your can buy an USB to Ethernet adaptor!

An Ethernet/RJ45 port look's like a phone jack/port but a little bigger, it has 8 pins
