    Hey.

Recently got Verizon DSL Broadband and it works fine when connected through Ethernet (though it is slower than what advertised) or through laptop.

Now I want to connect my Dad's computer in the next room wirelessly, so I bought a Zyxel G220 v2 USB adapter (this is what Verizon shipped).

The Zyxel connects up to the Versalink Router/Modem easily, but that's all it does. It shows a connection, but I can't get on the internet.

Is it actually connected to the Router/Modem - or has itr just found the network. The wireless link requires the Network name (SSID) and a security key .Sounds like you need to setup the security key for the network (if it is enabled).
check the properties of the connection and exactly match the SSID and security key to what the modem is set to.
You should have been provided with these details or access the modem wireless security page via a browser (ifrom memorey i think the address for a versalink is 192.168.1.1 )
if you have allready done the above - try an ipconfig , if the gateway is a 169.254.X.X or similar it maybe a firewall block

    Thanks for the response.

It is hooked up to the network, the WEP and SSID are the same.

    Did an ipconfig and got:

    No default gateway
    No connection specific dns suffix
    169.254.195.228.

The windows firewall is set to open, so don't know if that's providing a firewall. There is also McAfee on the system, so I'll check that out.

that ip looks like a firewall block, i have seen the same issue with some of the usb "nextG" (ip over mobile) systems we have in oz,,
not sure which mcafee version you have but i found these in some old notes

    Try this-
    Open the Mcafee firewall app
    go to the advanced menu
click CONFIGURE then INTERNET & NETWORK
then click ADVANCED on right side menu
    then click INTRUSION DETECTION
scroll to the bottom of the list and UNtick "Xmas scan"
    Apply and OK etc..

    or this

From the Bottom menu, click on Configure
    Click ADVANCED down the bottom.
Click on CONFIGURE down the bottom
    Click on INTERNET & NETWORK
Click on FIREWALL protection is enabled
Within the Firewall protection is enabled menu, click on the Advanced button
Another window will open, click on intrusion detection & deselect Xmas Scan
Click on OK and then close the McAfee Security Centre.

Found no McAfee firewall and the Windows firewall has an exception for the Zyxel, which is set on station mode, access point mode doesn't connect. Only other firewall possibility is in the router,

Read some of the Windows help, and it said that I should have 'Internet Connection Sharing' enabled, but except for the router, I have no networks.

Forgot to say, but the connection is this:

Versalink hooked up to my computer and an Xbox 360 with ethernet cables.
