USB and CD/DVD drives taken over by "Desktop by Access"

Everytime I plug anything into any USB drive (phone, camera, external hard drive, etc), or often when I access those devices, I get the following Windows Installer dialog box: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package Palm Desktop by ACCESS.msi” in the box below. The box below is "use source:" and the path in that box is: C:\Users\David\AppData\Local\Temp\_isC11D\
Of course there is no such path in that Temp directory...or anywhere else. I long ago uninstalled Palm Desktop. And of course I am not on a network. I tried to find something about this with a HijackThis run, found nothing. Ran regedit and deleted anything with the word "Palm" in it. Ran RegistryBooster without benefit. In Control Panel, to remove software, still have a Palm Desktop by ACCESS in the list of program files and i get the same dialog when I try to uninstall it. So I just deleted all Palm Desktop files and that made no difference. Some way of looking at drivers controlling the USB drives and CD drive? Or do you think this post belongs in "software"? thanks for thinking about this.---DG

Download the Microsoft Installer Cleanup utility. Run it in an admin account and see if your Palm Desktop by Access is listed. If so select it and press the remove button. Reboot and see if your problem is resolved.
