I just bought a new Epson Printer CX6400, when I plugged it in to the PC and turn it on I get this message:

    “This device can perform faster:
This USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port”

What does that mean and how can I make my USB faster?

It means your Printer is a USB 2.0 device and your USB port on your computer is USB 1.1

You could make it faster by buying a USB2.0 PCI card, though you wouldn't get the full USB 2.0 bandwidth out of it, you'd still get more than USB 1.1.

    Thanks tux2460,

"though you wouldn't get the full USB 2.0 bandwidth out of it"

What do you mean by that, sorry new to all this PC stuff :)

USB 2.0 is faster than USB 1.1 ~400Mbs as opposed to 12Mbps respectively. So plugging a 2.0 device into a 1.1 port reduces the speed to 12Mbps.

I didn't have enough USB ports in my computer so I bought a 4 port 2.0 USB PCI card for less than $30.00. It's a five minute installation.
