    Hi,

I have a 7 in 1 internal multi card reader installed on a computer I built about a month ago. The device is run off an internal USB header. When I initially set up the computer, windows explorer would show 4 drive letters for the card reader. After about a week, the additional drive letters disappeared and the device stopped working. The fix I found was to open the computer, unplug the reader, reboot, shut down, plug in the reader and reboot. Kinda a pain, because it only works for about another week before it disappears again.

Anything I'm missing here? Under device manager, I don't get any errors. The only thing I see under "USB controllers" is an unknown device. When I click on properties, it says there is no driver installed. I tried looking for a few generic drivers, but every utility I run says no driver is required for WinXP and doesn't provide me a driver to install myself.

    Thanks for the help

    Hey there:)
Sorry to hear about your trouble with the USB card, could you tell us the exact model?.
Have you tried uninstalling the device from device manager, restart computer and see if it will work longer than a week?, did you check for IRQ conflicts?

I did a little homework, and the make/model is Koutech IO-FPM420.

The weird thing is that when the device stopped working, no conflicts showed up in device manager. The only thing that would show up is unknown device under USB controllers. The area under disk drives was empty (except my hard drive). Now that I have done the unplug, reboot, plug back in routine I have four generic USB storage devices listed under Disk Drives. I also have USB mass storage device under USB Controllers and four generic devices listed under Storage Volumes.

I'm trying a different internal USB header to see if that will help anything. Doubt it, but worth a shot.
