usb connectivity problem

I get an odd beeping sound from my sytem speaker when i try to plug in a device to my usb ports (2 on board) and my keyboard and mouse stop responding. As soon as i unplug the item my mouse etc comes back. I have made sure there are no irq conflicts and the drivers are updated(newly built pc) Is the odd beep fom the sys spkr a post or ????

usb does not use irq's

 

what are you trying to plug into the usb port?does it do this with different devices?I'm not familiar with windows ME,but have you checked device manager to see the status of your usb controllers?

 

thats odd one does wonder how you control your usb ports mine(controllers) are onboard hence the irq thingy.

yea it seems to be all of them when i check the device mngr has a green ? over the device.it said update drivers did it still no go aaaaarrghhhh! this is a new board

 

I'd unplug any usb devices from the motherboard, and check the manufacturer website for any USB drivers. Install them, reboot, and try again.

Or, download the drivers, remove all usb related items within device manager, reboot, install the newer USB drivers, reboot, check device manager making sure no yellow exclamation marks or red x's, then plug a usb device in.
