Not exactly a problem, per se, but something I've wondered about for a long time. USB jacks are supposed to make things universal and quick swap, correct?

Why, then, does happen: the wireless receiver that I've used for years, plugged into (arbitrarily named) USB #1, works fine. If I plug it into any other USB port, including #2 - a quarter-inch away on the same circuit board, Windows thinks it's an entirely new device and attempts to reinstall software that's already in place.

    What gives?

Windows is doing its job, windows doesn't know that it was moved from one plug to another, just reinstalling it so its "usable" again. Its still quick swap, but just needs to setup the usb to run interface with that device.
