USB dead on Dell 700m

The USB ports (2 of them) on my Dell 700m have stopped working. I've gone into device manager and everything appears normal. I've tried deleting all of the USB entries and followed by a reboot to no avail. The following is shown in device manager (Windows XP Home):

- Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller - 24CD
- Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C2
- Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C4
- Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C7
- USB Root Hub
- USB Root Hub
- USB Root Hub
- USB Root Hub

The problem is somewhat fickle. Right now the machine will not recognize the printer or the Palm in either port ("USB Device Not Recognized"), but it recognizes the mouse on both. There are times the mouse is not recognized.

I'm at a loss.

Any ideas?

Have you tried Re-installing the drivers for all devices which arn't working?

 

Yes...problem still exists.

This thing is driving me nuts. Today, the mouse works in both USB ports and the Palm and printer works on the bottom port but not the top.

Pepe, I tried to reply to your PM, but apparently you have elected not to receive PM's.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to offer much assistance. The problem just went away on its own.

As I mentioned in the original post, it was fickle and intermittent. After a while, it just started working again.
