Since I got my new mouse (SteelSeries Xai gaming mouse) my computer has failed to initialize the USB ports upon BIOS boot up. I can get around this problem by unplugging the Xai mouse, plugging in a standard laser mouse, turning the computer back on, letting windows boot up, then plugging the Xai mouse back in.

If I let the computer start up without plugging in the standard mouse, the Xai mouse will not work when I plug it in after boot up yet the standard one will.

Any idea why this is happening?

    Greetings, TheMadHacker.

    A few groundwork questions:

What operating system version and Service Pack # are you running, and what's the make and model # of your machine (please include any Service Tag #s)?

Have you tried different USB ports (preferably rear ports)? Are any other USB devices installed?

Can you access your machine's BIOS? If so, try disabling any 'Legacy USB' settings.

Does the Xai require any software (drivers, .ini files, etc.)? Does it require a different USB spec than those on your machine (1.0 vs. 2.0)?

Windows XP Pro sp3 (built computer myself)

Yes I have tried other ports, same results. Several other devices, none of them have ever given me any issue in the past. (Original G15 gaming keyboard, Webcam, Microsoft XBox 360 wireless controller link up, and an Epson printer.)

Can you access your machine's BIOS? If so, try disabling any 'Legacy USB' settings.
Before I do so, what is the purpose of that?

The Xai is supposed to act as a regular plug and play mouse without the software you can download for it to run it properly. Requires 2.0 which I have.
