You may well need to install the Motherboard drivers as in Intels Chipset drivers, to know which one you have follow instructions in the page below
    http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-009245.htm?iid=chipsets+infmain&

or this one should cover you
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=1667 or if not this one I know covers earlier chipsets Intel Chipset Driver

BUT if you let us know which Chipset you have from Intel we can aim you in correct direction.

The chipset drivers add support for USB amongst other things, then most of the updates for USB are found at Windows Update ( do you have SP2 installed )

Done all of the above but did not read the readme files cause I'm only a geek in certain areas. Just clicked on all the .exe files and hoped for the best. No go.
Anyway 2 sets of numbers in System devices.

82801BA/Ca PCI Bridge (I/O Cont  roller) and 82815 Processor to I/O conrtoller.
    Are these any good.
The Chipset is Intel but what I dunno.

    What is SP2?

SP2 is Service Pack 2, a collection of Micro$$oft updates, patches and fixes.

They are cumulative, so you only need to install the latest one, for XP it's SP2.

To identify your hardware, use EVEREST.

NOTHING WORKS. Updated everything in sight. Anyway...in case someone can help.
    Motherboard = Gigabyte GA-60X
    Chipset Northbridge= Intel Solano i81 5EP
    Chipset Southbridge = Intel 82801BA/ICH2.
I think I'm in over my head here.
Updated my WIN XP But not SP2. Too many scary stories.
    Anysuggestions

the Intel INF download and install this one from GB for your Mobo http://www.giga-byte.com/Motherboard/Support/Driver/Driver_GA-6OX.htm

If you goto Device Manager are their any yellow ! marks if so by what?

Forget scary stories, those are spread by peeps who dont follow instructions, SP2 for the vast majority of users works fine, I have had no issues with it on countless PCs .. apart from 1 which had spyware ( not mine tho i'll add )

    SP2 adds more wireless compatability

Hi Halo. Got the Motherboard Chipset update......but after I click on the programme it goes through the motions but the drivers don't seem to be updating. I tried the readme file but can hardly understand what they're talking about. I think I'm a failed geek.
Ps No yellow marks but microsoft does'nt deem my computer worthy of an sp2 update.

The motherboard or chipset drivers dont add extra drivers for USB, what they do is add support for these drivers, your not a failed geek, its just not easy to troubleshoot when we are not in same room looking at same PC, its a process that can take minutes or days!

you can do a quick check to see if the chipset drivers did actually install ok, goto Start > Run and type regedit and hit enter up will pop the registry editor ( warning the registry can seriously harm your PC if you delete or change anything, but all we are doing is checking )

navigate through these points by clicking the + next to each one HKey_Local_Machine > SOFTWARE > INTEL > InfInst

once you get to InfInst click the folder and up will come some data on the right side window, in this window look for "install" and "sucess" if they are their this part is done ok and you can close the registry editor down.

next try again to install whatever software Wanadoo have given you on CD for the Wireless box.
