Hi! I have a Win98 computer to which I want to connect a USB CD drive. However, it has only two USB ports; one port is always used, and the other serves an important purpose. I think I have the necessary drivers. I want to connect the device temporarily and disconnect the drive on demand. Can I do it?

BTW, I know about a USB hub. I don't want to buy one because I need the money for another purpose. :(

i would think it would work. give it a try. hopefully you have win98se. since it dealt with usb better than windows 98 first edition. also, you might want to see if this is something worth trying out.

    good luck with it.

if you ever do get a usb hub, make sure it supplies its own power ( you can plug it in to an electrical outlet )
the usb bus probably would not supply enough power to an external cd drive to make it functional.

I got it to work, and it has an extra cable to fit another USB device. Thank you! :)
