I have a 'Beast' gaming headset by Dragonwar that connects via USB. As I'm mousing over things, scrolling up and down etc I can hear a buzzing/rumbling noise. Or it'll do a faint screeching noise when just browsing and looking at other things. Also noisy when a progress bar is moving along (particularly noticeable watching things on Youtube).

It doesn't seem to relate to the volume setting, or whether the Mic button is toggled on or off or the vibration button is on or off . By plugging it into a USB 2.0 hub it has reduced the volume of all the 'white noise' a little. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate with Gigabyte GA-M55S-S3 motherboard.

I did consider a female USB to audio adaptor but as the headset isn't powered that's not going to get me anywhere. Is there maybe some sort of USB to USB device that cancels out interference like this? Otherwise I guess the only answer is a new headset.

Sounds like a classic "bad ground". Sometimes it's the board, or it could be headphone port or plug itself. The best solutions are a solid PCIe sound card, or an external sound card isolated from the tower.

From your symptoms, I'll guess you have a mechanical hard drive. How is the wiring in your home? All outlets grounded, panel properly bonded, and ared the ground rods outside the home proper?

I think It'd be cheaper to get a headset that uses the audio socket rather than a better sound card setup, looking at the prices of them.

It is a mechanical hard drive

No idea if the wiring is grounded, panels bonded or if the rods are proper. It's all done to UK standards as far as I know. I do have other systems plugged into sockets here and never had issues like this before. This system is only sharing a socket with a scanner.

If I plugged the USB into an adaptor that split into a USB and audio connector that might work. Does that even exist?
