USB in DVD Player

Hi major geeks, I had a question about my dvd player.

I see on it there is a USB port on it.

So what would I need to watch videos through that USB port? I have several external HDs, but I don't know what I would need.

Also would it be possible to play HD videos through my USB slot?

 

You wont be able to hook up external drives to that port. I would expect that it is only for engineering purposes. What player do you have?

 

I have a BD player that has a USB port. I only have one disc (T2 Judgement Day, Skynet Edition) that asks me too put something in the USB. I think it's used by some discs for interactive content.

 

It is a Panasonic DMR-EZ485V.(Not Blu-ray)

It has a "drive select" option, where you can switch through the DVD, VHS, USB and even a SD Card slot. So I am sure that I can somehow play things through that.

The question is the quality/size..

It is called a "USB memory slot"

So it looks like it's for a USB thumb drive,

EDIT: it looks like that USB slot can play a video format called DIVX. But I think divx is a limited format, so I may only play low quality video :/

Is a ROKU HD player be the only thing that would help me get what I want?

 

DIVX is a form of video compression. It is commonly used for VCDs etc. You can get some quite reasonable results with it. I have my DVD collection backed up to NAS storage using DIVX. you can compress down from 8GB Dual Layer DVD to 800MB CDs and still get a watchable output. I would suggest drop some vidoe files onto USB or even USB HD and see what plays. If you do use an HD you may need an external Powersupply for the drive as I dont know whether the USB port will be able to power the drive. Maybe it will.
