USB key not being recognized by XP (FAT32)

Any ideas why?
I'm about to toss my friends computer out the window, what a pain in the...

 

Is it one particular USB key? Have you tried others that work on other PC's?
What happens when you plug it in? Nothing? Error messages?
Assume you have tried all the available USB ports on the PC.

Start-->Run type in devmgmt.msc <enter>

Scroll down to the last entry.
Does the Device manager show Universal Serial Bus Controllers?
Open it up.
What entries are there?
