usb key? portable harddrive? ipod nano???

my 512usb key got bent (my fault) so i need a new one.
usually carry some personal files but mostly programs and antispyware/virus/adware etc...im debating between a 1gig sandisk cruzer key...or maybe a portable harddrive but those suckers are big...then there's the new ipod nano, which im skeptical about, because is it a simple plug'n'play? or do you need to install software on every computer you use it with...
OR...if anyone can make a recommendation that would be shwweeeet...
the reason im debating a 1gig usb key is because it's around just under 100...where if i had another $150+ i can get a portable harddrive but it's a lot bigger...so no idea where to go with this...thanks again.

came across these in work last week as our IT dept use the 100gb Portable drive ( they use it for PC build Images ) but they also have a smaller pocket one,

Seagate Pocket HD 5gb

Portable Hard Drive ( Horizontal dimensions: 1" D x 3.7" W x 5" H, Weight: 10.3 oz ) so very small and portable

but then USB pen drives are even smaller.

i was thinking about these actually, very nice...so im really torn...i was hopin to hold out for a bit on these guys, hoping for bigger storage (but then that'll mean more $ when they're new on the market)
for now i could borrow my friends external portable harddrive which is 160gigs...until i feel i need my own...gah im confused lol
