All of my USB mice have suddenly stopped working. I was using a Razer Viper and I unplugged it and plugged my wifes Generic Dell mouse to see if id like it better and the light came on her mouse but the cursor wouldnt move. Windows added the hardware and said it was working but the cursor just wouldnt move. So I plugged my Razer mouse back in and same thing, light came on but the cursor wouldnt move. Windows finds and installs the mouse but it just doesnt work.

In the device manager there are no yellow ! indicating a missing driver anywhere. Ive uninstalled all of the USB Root Hubs and Universal Host Controllers and let them reinstall and it did not help. I have a USB keyboard plugged in that IS working. Ive tried it in all 8 USB ports and they all work fine. Ive tried both mice in other computers and they both work fine in the other computers. Ive also noticed the mice works on my pc for the few seconds before windows installs it but then as soon as it says the device should work it stops working. My Pc is on a dual boot with Vista and XP and both OS's will not recognize the mouse properly.

Im currently using a PS/2 mouse which works fine but of course id prefer my USB mice. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Also my motherboard is a Gigabyte P45 DS3L F7 BIOS. Ive tried reinstalling the Intel ICH USB 2.0 Driver but it says its already installed and wont let me install it again. Windows Update doesn't list anything as needing an update.

Try this: plug the mouse in to a PC where it works. Once it's installed and obviously fully functional, go to the Device Manager and right click the mouse and select 'Properties'. Click the 'Drivers' tab, then click the 'Driver Details' button. This will show you which files the mouse uses (and their locations). Then simply copy the files from the PC where the mouse works over to the PC where the mouse doesn't work (of course, you'd put the files in the same folder you copied 'em from). Both PCs must have the same version of Windows. After a restart, plug the mouse in and it should be OK. Before replacing the files on the PC where the mouse doesn't work, you might want to rename the files just in case you need to bring 'em back later for some reason. If you don't rename 'em, and just over-write them, they will be lost. I usually add a ".oldversion" to the end of the file name in situations like this.
    Good luck!:-D

(I would have posted the driver files needed, but I do not use a USB mouse, mine is a PS2 mouse and I'm pretty sure the files are different for PS2 vs. USB)

EDIT- I was just thinking.... you might want to check the registry entries for the USB mouse also. Here's a screen shot of the mouse entries on my PC for a PS2 mouse. The registry key and the data it contains should be very similar for a USB mouse.... you can check this registry key on the PC where the mouse works to see if it's the same, or if any changes to your registry need to be made. The exact path to the highlighted key can be found at the bottom of the screen shot.

Sometimes takes a while for the system to recognize and get the mouse up and functioning, leave in, reboot and retry, if all else fails USB/PS2 adapter ...

I finally fixed my mouse problem, half way anyway. Somehow the Dell mouse corrupted the driver for my razer mouse. I uninstalled the razer mouse driver and reinstalled it and that fixed the razer mouse. I still cant get the dell mouse to work, i suppose its a dud or something. I tried replacing the driver files like dlb suggested but that didnt fix that problem. I copied the drivers, which were mouclass and mouhid, from the working pc to my pc but that didnt fix the problem. I tried updating the driver but the mouse wasnt even listed under Mice and Other Pointing Devices and the listing under Human Interface Devices wanted an INF file. Thats when I downloaded and reinstalled the Razer driver again which fixed it.

As soon as I plug the dell mouse back in the Razer mouse quits working again and the dell mouse still wont work. Its like it automatically corrupts the razer driver. Oh well im just happy to have my mouse back, considering the PS2 I was using was a roller ball and didnt even have a scroll wheel :banghead

    Thanks for your guys help!

VVVVVVVVVVVVVVV And stay away from this mouse

It's not the mouse that's the problem, it's the drivers. It's like trying to drive a manual transmission car if you have only ever driven an automatic: The computer is trying to apply the Razer drivers to the Dell mouse, and the Dell mouse probably wants completely different Dell drivers.
