    Hi all,

Not defeated quite yet but thought someone else could offer some suggestions.

I have just aquired a Napa 256 LCD Mp3 player. The player connects via USB.

Windows XP Pro Sp2 tells me "Device Not Recognised". I have tried other USB ports on my PC and i receive the same message. The docs indicate that i do not need to install the bundled software but it makes no difference i have tried both and receive the same message. The player looks as if it powers up ok but still the same result. I've plugged in different USB devices to the same ports and they work fine. Have stripped SP2 and SP1 and tried at each point even down to a vanilla XP build, no joy, Have also re-installed the VIA USB drivers at each point also (as well as uninstalling Symantec just in case).

Tried a couple of machines at work and they didn't even register a USB device connected.

The docs that came with it indicate a recovery mode which i have tried but again no joy and also indicate that i can update the firmware on the device via the software "Sigma Tel MSCN" but the software searches but can't find a device. System properties indicate an "Unknown USB Device" and say that no drivers are installed although when you view driver details it says the standard MS USB driver is installed. Probably missing something obvious......any help appreciated.

Thanks Rikky, i don't reckon its anything with my machine. I've had a look for a switch but its not visible if there is one. I reckon its been manufactured with no firmware at all on it or there is a fault with it, i'm going to take it back to the store tomorrow and say its broken and get them to test the replacement on one of there machines....time will tell.....thanks for the reply Rikky it's much appreciated.
