Do you currently have anything plugged into any USB ports(besides the webcam)?

Take a look in your Device Manager (Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware tab > Device Manager). Are there yellow ?'s or !'s on the Universal Serial Bus controller?

you'll probably have to get the drivers for your motherboard, which will have drivers for the usb ports.

If you don't know what motherboard you have, use Everest and post the log as an attachment. (don't copy and paste, only attach it)

Someone will have a look at it for you and suggest the correct drivers you can download.

Save the log to your desktop, then Go Advanced here, and click Manage Attachments, browse and upload it, then submit the post.

(I had a look at Gigabytes site, and they don't list an GA-7VTXH+)

I’ve done What you told me to do and when I reply I get “the message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 4 characters" Now what?

You also need to type something in with the attachment as there is a minimum of characters.

For example, here is the Everest Log, or I love Insomniac or whatever.

Gigabyte doesn't list that motherboard on it's site, is it an OEM machine like Dell or HP etc?

As the motherboard uses a VIA chipset, I suggest you try installing the VIA 4 in 1 drivers.

  26. saethe075

It's an AMD Athlon. About 3 years old. Do you still suggest that driver?

  27. Insomniac

Yes, you need that driver regardless of what it is as you have a VIA chipset.

Is it an OEM like Dell or HP etc, as Gigabyte don't list that motherboard, which would suggest it is?

Installed Via chipset and still says unable to locate a working USB port. Could they be turned off?

As it's booting, you need to repeatedly tap a key, usually F1 or F11 etc.

    Different computers use different keys.

Unless it's been disabled, it should tell you in white writing at the bottom, "press *whatever* to enter setup".

I found the motherboard. It's not listed on their enlish sites. Here's a link to it
    http://www.gigabyte.de/MotherBoard/Products/Products_GA-7VTXH+.htm
How many usb ports are there? The site says there are two on board and two by cable. I am thinking you are plugging into one of the ones by cable. And the cable may be unplugged. If you haven't, try plugging it into the other usb ports.
