USB Ports not working

I've had my laptop for several years, recently within the last few months my usb ports have stopped working same with my sd card slot. Although with my usb I can charge my cell phone it just wont detect anything cell phone, usb drive, ect. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

Control Panel, Device Manager, Universal Serial Bus Controllers (click the + sign)
any yellow ! in there?
If so highlight those with the yellow ! and up at the top click the disable button. Then go back and click the enable button. The yellow ! should now be gone.

Most likely something has been spilled into the unit, or been allowed to run hot, which has caused cold solder joints to fail. Also chips can fail.

Probably time for a new laptop if you have had the current one for quite a few years.

Hi

What is your Windows version and Service Pack?
As mentioned by plodr what if any yellow ! marks do you have in device manager?

What I would be tempted in trying is open device manager and open the Universal Serial Bus Controller branch and then plug in a device that's not working and note the change in the device list. Then right click and uninstall that device, then unplug and re-plug it in to re-install the driver and see how you go.
