USB Ports Stopped Working?

    USB Ports Stopped Working. Would anyone know the cause and or fix for this?

    Can you be a bit more specific? Do you get any error messages? Does you get the Windows "glonk" sound when you plug something in? Have you looked in the Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus controllers? Please post more details so we can try to help. ;)

    Sorry about that...
    No error msg, No sound, but the thumb drive light up for 1 sec then go's out.
    And the Device Manager shows no problems.
    It's a Gateway running Win XP Media Center.

    Yes, the thumb drive works in other PC's.

    I tried http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817900 but still no good.
    I think I will buy a PCI card with USB's and ports and see if they work.
    This is the 2nd time that I have herd of this happening.

    This may sound silly but it has worked for others whose USB ports have quit working. Turn off the computer. Pull the computer plug from the wall outlet/mains and let it out about an hour. Then plug it back in, turn on the computer and see if the USB ports work again.
