Yesterday my usb ports worked fine today the don't.
Tried plugging different things into them and does not read anything. Tried uninstalling them and restarting my computer and also checking the BIos to see if they are enabled. Any ideas?

    Greetings, alext3.

Need the make and model #, and the Everest report.

Please download and install Everest, a free system information tool.

Run Everest and click Report (top menu) > Report Wizard > Next - Choose System Summary Only > Next - Choose Plain Text > Finish and wait for report to generate.
Click Save to File and leave the File Name as Report, then click the Save as Type dropdown and choose Report files (*txt) - click Save (n.b. Save to desktop, use Browse to locate desktop).

Then attach your log to your next post per these instructions: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post.

Try the VIA USB 2.0 drivers first - if that's not successful, then install the 4-in-1 drivers.

Need to make sure it's not a software issue before we start digging into the hardware - nothing stands out as far as what caused the problem? Maybe check your Event Viewer, see if anything stands out.

Are the ports showing any flags in Device Manager?

Both drivers did not fix the problem. I checked DV no flags

Make sure that 'Show hidden devices' is enabled in the Device Manager > View tab.

You might open your case, see if there's anything obvious (loose connections, etc.), assuming this is a desktop.

Strange that all ports are down without an apparent cause, unless the mobo is flaky - everything else working correctly?

Mobo flaky, is always a problem.

Recently I lost the ability to boot my PC from any USB port, or card slot.
All ports and slots were still visible and worked in Windows.

Having an idea of what might be the problem, I removed all power from my system and then took out the CMOS battery for about a half hour.
When I re-installed the battery and restored the power to the system, I once again was able to boot from a USB drive or card slot.

An F11 on boot, shows a boot menu that has every drive in my system on a nice little menu. Everything had disappeared except for the Floppy Drive, one of my CD drives and one HD (on SATA port 0),
but flushing and resetting the bios solved the problem.

Flushing the BIOS does not solve every problem all the time, but it does solve many problems many times.

I was even given a little HP computer years ago, that was for all indicators DEAD as a door-nail. I took out the CMOS battery and checked it.....it was way down around 1 volt. (effectively DEAD)
It was several hours before I got back to that little PC with a new battery.
I put in the new battery, plugged in the PC and hit the Pwr On button. The little PC sprang to life and booted up normally. rolleyes

I wonder how many PC's wind up in the land fill because of nothing more than a little $3 battery???

    Cheers Mates!
