I have an Asus P5NSLI board and I can't seem to get the USB ports to work. When I plug in a device (doesn't matter what it is), it appears to start to load the device, then displays a device not recognized message. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks!

    Hi

    What Windows version?
Is this a new clean install of Windows?

Also in Device Manager are there any yellow ! marks if so by what devices?

I checked that and it is enabled.

Windows XP Home. Yes, a new install on new drive, with an old motherboard. The device manager doesn't show any errors and the drivers appear to be correct.

When I last used this board, I was hit by a nasty virus that wiped the MBR (I let someone use it that downloaded the bugger) and am trying to rebuild on a new drive. The install went fine and everything else works good. When I plug into any of the USB ports, it's the same thing. It starts to initialize the device, then bombs out.

    Hi

I would try installing the Nvidia Chipset drivers again and see if that clears this up, but before installing the chipset, reset your BIOS to default (pop out battery for 5mins or so) then reset any settings you need like if your using RAID, onboard audio, 1st boot device etc then install the chipset drivers.

Just enter your motherboard version (P5NSLI) at the link below top left search box

and if that doesnt correct it after a reboot, then try resetting the USB drivers, open a CMD prompt from your admin account and type of paste in the below and hit enter one at a time

    rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 C:\WINDOWS\inf\usbstor.inf
    rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 C:\WINDOWS\inf\usb.inf
    rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 C:\WINDOWS\inf\usbport.inf
    rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 C:\WINDOWS\inf\usbprint.inf

Thanks! I'll give that a try when I can get at it later.

I must be doing something wrong. The chipset download didn't work, so I rebooted into safe mode and tried to input the commands in the shell window. I got a command not recognized response on every attempt... ARRRGGGHHH!!!
