USB problem

Have an Intel P2 MMX @ 166 Mhtz / 64 MB Memory, Win ME and have installed a 2 port PCI USB card have managed to find driver and installed OK, installed driver for my memory watch 256 MB and activity light is blinking so it is recieving power. Not being too familiar with Win ME where would the storage device show, have looked all over and used Everest and Syst Info but cant find it.. ??

Your usb storage device should be visible in My Computer. Have you checked Control Panel - System - Device Manager to see if there are any problems with your USB card or drivers?

 

I agree -- check Device Manager. IIRC, each device needs individual drivers in Win9x, so just having drivers for the PCI card isn't enough. Most USB sticks come with a Win9x driver disk for this reason.

I don't remember how WinME handled USB.

 

OK ... I uninstalled the storage watch driver and installed with disk an agfa scanner and still the same ... I checked on 'DriverDetective' and according to them the installed 'OPTi 82C861 PCI To Open Host Controller' (in syst properties) is 'A' ok. Have checked drv updates, and I know the install disk is ok as I use scanner on another com. The IRQ in Bios is set for 10 on Primary and secondary. This is really strange as kids used to have this computer and the 2 onboard USB's never did work, does that hint at anything ?? Thanks for input so far. And in answer to Ason's quest it is a Pentinum 2 that runs at 166MHtz previous info was from 'Everest'

 

After reading another post I thought it would be wise to mention that computer has AOL installed. Could this be an issue with the USB's ??
