I have a computer that I just replaced the hard drive and installed a legit Windows XP home well anyways the problem is that when I connect the printer and/or digital camera windows detects the new hardware but it wont find the driver even though I do have the correct drivers. Now I was able to install an IPOD and it did work so I know that the usb ports are working. Any help would be appreciated.

Some require installing the drivers first then physically installing the hardware.

I did do that. I installed the driver first and then connected device still no go. I also tried to manually install the driver by browsing to the file where the driver was located and it didnt find it. Thanks for the reply

Go to device manager and uninstall the printer ....leave it connected and reboot ...let it reinstall ...see if that works.

Curious ....do sfc and see if something is missing or corrupt...
start / run / type "sfc /scannow" without qoutes and have the xp disk ready.

did you install Service Pack 2? i think it has something to do with usb drivers. my usb is flaky without SP2.

I'm a bit stumped ....can you install on another computer as a test of the hardware.

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode then going to the Device Manager and seeing if there are any "ghost" printers or cameras. If there are delete eveything and then, as TimW suggested earlier, reboot and let the PC redetect the items in question.
