USB Problems

When connecting both my MP3 player and camera I am receiving the following message "Usb device attatched to the computer has malfunctioned. Windows does not recognise it" I have tried re installing all the appropriate software to no avail. I have checked all my USB ports with the same result. I had connected my MP3 the previous day with no problems. I have also connected to another pc with no problems whatsoever.
Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

So, if you connect your MP3 player alone, it works, right? If so, isn't that a solution? Do you really need to have both connected at the same time?

 

Both the phone and Mp3 are being connected individually, the problem and the message are the same for both camera and MP3 player. Basically neither of them are being recognised when they are being connected!

 

Do you normally shutdown your computer at night? Has it been restarted since this started happening?

 

I shut down every night and the problem has continued!

 

Not to hijack the thread, but I had the exact same problem (different devices) with the USB on a laptop. I tried everything from reloading drivers to a safe repair install of the OS. Nothing worked. I thought about just formatting and reloading, but it's not my laptop, and there's too much data that would be lost, blah blah blah.... and if the format and reload doesn't work, then there'd be all that lost data for nothing. I ended up using a PCMCIA expansion card with 3 USB ports on it, and it works perfect, which leads me to believe that it's the on board USB controller chip has gone south, at least in my scenario.... your situation may be different....

 

Since dlb mentioned a laptop, is this computer a laptop or desktop/tower computer?

 

Desktop! Just tried again. Pc has been off for over 24 hours and it seems to be connecting again???? Cheers for the info guys. Have a good one!
