USB stick

Is it possible to put a password on a USB stick?
Normally you can buy them with password protection already on there or even mp3 players but i got a kingston one 256mb and have quite a bit of work on there i wouldnt want someone to erase.
Ive searched everywhere with no luck.
Perhaps someone here knows.
Just to simplify it, basically is there a program or some sort of a patch that would allow you to have password protection for accessing the files on there.

 

I know of some software that enables you to put folders anywhere and make them password protected? The name has escaped my mind but I'll get back to you. My USB stick came with a cd that has a password utility on, have you got one?

 

nope. its just a plain usb. thats why i was wondering if there is a way to make it password protected.

 

Why not back it up regularly to your hard drive? Then if someone wipes it, or alters it, you can simply copy info back from your hard drive to the uSB drive. Bazza

Most zip utilities allow creation of a password-protected zipfile. You could use such a zip file (folder) on the stick. Could be deleted, though. The backup suggestion is a good one. For protection against accidental deletion, you could set the zipfile's properties to Read-only, Hidden or System.
