    Hi,
I have an external HDD 'Lacie'. and a USB port not sure if it is 1.0 or 1.5 in my PC. However I want to transfer large files 1 - 4Gb from the PC to the external.

But it takes forever - without changing to USB2 is there any way to speed it up.
It takes a good hour or so for 2Gb !!

    Thx

If you are transfering pictures or music, takes awhile, but not that much. I do, ocassionally that (small HD), some more than 1000 music files and some 100' pictures. There is a way that you can speed it up a little bit, defrag the source before doing that, in that way the aplication will not look everywhere for the files to transfer.

Nope no way to speed up without having compatible USB2.0 hardware.

USB is in four guises USB0.9 ( not really used at all ) USB1.0 USB1.1 and USB2.0
To check which version you have goto Device Manager and click USB Controllers and check to see if you have a listing for Enhanced Host Controller ... if so you have USB2.0 if not you most likely have USB1.0 or 1.1
