WinXP Home SP3; Compaq Laptop. I haven't seen it, but the PCs owner is complaing of random BSOD crashes to STOP:0x000000D1 with the file USBOHCI.SYS being listed with the DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error. I have reloaded the chipset drivers and done some extensive searching at the MSKB and haven't really found anything concrete. Since the error hasn't happened to me, I can't really pin down what's causing it. I have used numerous USB devices in the process to 'coax' a BSOD from the PC but so far, it's stable. However, when I go to remove a flash drive, I'll left click the icon in the system tray by the clock, and I get some items listed that shouldn't be there (see screen shot).....

Compaq is owned by HP. I can find the usbohci.sys error but the code is different

since I don't know the model of Compaq, I'm not getting too far in my search.

Ask the owner specifically what is being attached.

It's also strange that it is showing two mass storage devices. I assume you just had one attached.

Here's what I found on Open Host Controller

Are the USB ports 1 and 1.1? Is there an Enhanced Host Controller for USB 2 in device manager? Maybe the open host controller isn't needed???
