im running a laptop that as only got usb1.0 and i want to put an external cd-rw on but they all seem to be usb2.0.can i get a usb 1.0 to 2.0 converter so as to run the device at a better speed.

 

USB 2.0 is backwards compatible

 

not so easy. in order for you to have USB2.0, you must have a USB 2.0 header on your motherboard. no adapter can do the trick.

 

ive put an external cdrw on but its only running at 4x.will a usb 2.0 hub turn my 1.1 usb ports in back of laptop into 2.0s

You could just run with the speed of USB 1.0
Or Add Firewire go that route, something like this:
