I have an older computer that I am trying to fix up for my son. (Compaq presario 5000 xp2)
I downloaded drivermagic pro from this site and it didn't work, so I bought it and I guess it is now owned by someone different and a totally new program, all automatic. So when I downloaded the c-media ac97 audio device it suggested, I lost my sound as others have.

I am still waiting for their reply to know how to roll it back. I tried in device manager, but it said there was no drivers installed for it?
I am not that good at these things but I can follow directions.... Anybody have any?:confused

The Presario 5000 series was sold in MANY different configurations with different motherboards, sound chips, etc... There should be an accurate model number (like 5010us or 5372 or something). If you could post this number, I could probably help out with an accurate driver. In the meantime, here's a link to the CMedia website. They have 4 onboard sound chips, and 3 different drivers (2 chips use the same driver). I've found the 9738 and 9739 are the most common used on motherboards, and they both use the UDA039 driver.... you can try it if you want (no guarantees), or post the exact model of the Presario....

Ugh, I meant Toshiba satellite 1005-s157
I am so used to typing the dell because it's hard drive recently died and I tried quite a bit to fix it before I knew it was the hard drive.
I am leary to update drivers because I have had problems before.

It wasn't easy :banghead But here's the link to the drivers you need. I couldn't find anything at Toshiba's site until I looked in their archives... DUH!

    I hope this helps!
    and Happy Holidays! :wine

BTW- be sure to install the Toshiba Console and the Power Mgmt utilities. They aren't required, your PC will run fine without them, but you won't be able to use many of the Fn hotkey functions like screen brightness control for example.... so, install 'em ;)
