    hello everyone, I'm having a problem with a used hard drive I just received. The first problem is that it is saying there are bad sectors on the drive and that it is bad. Is there anyway I can try to repair and salvage any of this? Also, the drive is reading as two drives. Is there anyway to format or fix it so that it is showing up as one drive? Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    If it is reading bad, then it is bad. Throw it away or you'll always have problems with it.

    However, if you still want to mess around with it,
    To get it to read as one drive;
    you need to delete all existing partitions and create a new one using all available space.

    To attempt to fix the bad sectors;
    Scan the drive using windows or another drive scanning software, and select the options to fix file systems, repair bad sectors etc.

    And do not save anything to this drive, that you cannot afford to lose.

    upon further inspection, the drive is split into 2 parts. One is reading as recovery, it is getting an I/O device error. The second one is reading as the drive itself. So I don't know what to do with it. I was really hoping I could try to salvage the thing somehow and use it as a backup drive somehow.

    As Blujay said -
    You are going to be sorely disappointed when you try to access this hdd, and it isn't recognized.

    You can buy a new one ( I just got a spare 2TB - for $79.00).

    Save yourself from any future headaches.

    What make/brand is the HD ? Seatools will "repair" bad sectors on Seagate HDs if there are not too many of them. The problem with bad sectors or blocks is, I understand, once they start appearing, they are prone to increase in number.

    As to the two-disk problem, try going DiskManagement, and deleting any/all partitions and re-formatting from there (I think the re-format wizard that it invokes uses the same program essentially as the command tool format. Hopefully in DiskManagement the Disk will show as one disk, with partitions.

    I apologise if I am telling things you already knew/have tried, and also if I am writing incorrect things. (if the latter I welcome corrections)
