User Account Problems

Windows XP SP3

This PC has two administrator users with passwords. When the PC is started it automatically boots to the last user... WITHOUT asking for a user name or password. If one logs off... then there is security... you need a user name and password to log back on... unless you turn the PC off and reboot.

I have tried all methods of logging in that is reflected under 'User Accounts.' Every time you re-start/re-boot... the system opens without asking for a user name and password. If you log off.... then you are asked for a user name and password to get back in.

Any ideas????? Thanks

 

Click "Start", click "Run", type control userpasswords2 and press Enter. A little bit of careful poking around in these menus should get you where you need to be. Just be sure to keep track of your changes "just in case"!

Thanks. That did the trick. On the opening screen, all I needed to do was put a 'check' mark in the box "User must enter a username and password to use this computer".

Observation and another quick question: I have had other XP PCs and never had to use this command (or even knew it existed). I simply created passwords for accounts and the PC automatically required username and password to gain access. Any ideas what might have eliminated the 'check' mark?? BTW - I ran various anti-virus and anti-spyware utilities and found nothing. Thanks
