I am so frustrated with myself. I am not sure what I did, but i was looking at my user accounts. Now, when I get a welcome screen when I boot up, telling me it is unable to log me on because of account restriction. If I click on that, it logs me on.
How do I get rid of that? I have been trying to boot in safe mode to do an online scan and I cannot connect to internet. I am assuming (which I probably shouldn't do) it has something to do with the user.
How do I get it back to where I have no welcome screen and it just boots up? I am the only user on this computer.

    Thanks
    Gal

well, first of all, make sure you are in the group administrators. you can check this by right clicking "my computer", go to manage, click on local users/groups on the left, then double click users on the right, then double click on your account name. go to members of, and be sure that it's in both users and administrators.

now, go ahead and download this: http://www.fiberpi.com/tweakui.cpl and stick it in your C:\windows\system32 folder. even though it's not designed for winxp, it works and, imo, better than powertoys xp.

now go to start, settings, control panel. in there should be a new entry called "tweakui". double click on that and you can tweak tons of stuff about windows. the logon tab is where you can specify who logs into the computer automatically. have fun!

Thank you Strogg. That fixed my login screen. Sure appreciate your fast response.

I still cannot connect to the internet in safe mode, though. Any ideas on that?

ok, this may sound like a silly question, but did you select "safe mode with networking"?

    Is it cable? DSL?

It must be an ethernet, and "always on" connection to work in Safe Mode, and as mentioned above, must be SafeMode w/ networking.
