My old HDD crashed, so I bought a new one and installed XP. After installation the computer restarted and a log in window popped up? I haven't created any usernames or passwords yet. Is there anyway past this? It has my user name set as administrator, but I don't know the password. What should I do?

have you tried simply leaving the password field blank?

usually during Windows Setup, you're prompted to create an Administrative Password. this never happened?

    XP? Home or Pro?

If Home, try rebooting into safe mode (F8). Then select administrator. Do you log in?

If Pro, hit CTRL + ALT + DLT (2 times). Then when the logon prompt appears (username and passowrd) Type in administrator (for the username) and press enter. Are you in?

If so in either case, migrate to control panel, then users, then check if your user account has a password. Select remove password.

    Reboot the machine.
