Hello everyone, I am new to posting but have lurked for awhile now. I recently have switched to using Firefox by Mozilla nd LOVE it (also am using Thunderbird for e-mail). I have set both Mozilla preggies as the default, however I am still having two problems, (one that may resolve itself next week)
    1. Whenever I click on a link in my e-mail it loads IE

    2. I am currently using Netzero to connect and once connected it loads IE (Next week I will be using Verizon DSL and hopfully it will not load IE upon connection) but would like to try to fix this in the meantime.

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated :)

    Thanks,
    Brooke

Sounds like the Mozilla browser is not set as the default.

Check the preferences of Firefox, make sure that it is default. Also you can check by clicking on 'Set Program Access and Defaults' from your Start Menu. If IE is set, see if you can choose Firefox.

Thank you but it only helped temporarily :(

I went in and first set it to custom checking off both Firefox and Thunderbird and then unchecking the enable this program box for IE and Outlook, clicked ok and the links in email open with Mozilla, but when connecting to the internet IE again opens.

I went back in and set it to non-microsft. It says Mozilla is set as default browser as well as e-mail and access has been removed from IE and outlook, clicked ok and the links in email open Mozilla but again when connecting to the internet IE opens :(

I went back in and checked the settings again. Non-Microsoft setting is still the same and still checked off but when looking into the custom setting the checks are next to "Use my current Web Browser" "Use my current e-mail program"

Maybe this is just an issue with this stupid Netzero?

    Edited to add:

Ok I just shut down all Mozilla windows, disconneted from the internet and then dialed up again. Of course IE opens again and when clicking on a link in e-mail I am getting IE again. Now I know that this Netzero proggy can be used with other browsers so I don't understand why its doing this, reseting the defaults back to IE.

Also when looking into the Set Program Access section, the Non-Microsft setting is still set with all Mozilla proggies as default??? Man this is driving me nuts!

open up a WINDOWS explorer window.
go to tools, folder options and then file types. In the list, look in the list that has no extensions set for URL:Hyper Text Transfer Protocol and URL:Hyper Text Transfer Protocol With Privacy.

Select the item and click advanced. Then select open and then EDIT on the right. Then uncheck the box that says use DDE. This will remove the IE reference. Once you close out it will use DDE with reference to FIREFOX.

This will also stop the box from popping up when selecting links from an email in outlook 2003.

    :(
I don't have this: URL:Hyper Text Transfer Protocol With Privacy.
But I do have this: URL:Hyper Text Transfer Protocol

I did as you said but upon connection Netzero is loading IE and e-mail links are loading IE.

    Maybe this is hopless?

    Edited to add:

Went back into Windows Explorer and checked and URL:Hyper Text Transfer Protocol and it has been set back to IExplore however the "Application used to preform action" is set to:
    C:\PROGRA~1\MOZILL~1\FIREFOX.EXE -url "%1"

OK set it as the default again, reconnected and got IE closed IE and opened Firefox and the window popped up saying it was not set as default. I set as default again, disconnected, reconnected and IE opened, closed IE and opened Firefox same window pops up. It am thinking this is hopless, everytime I connect with Netzero it resets my defaults :(

The only thing I can think is that there may be a program that needs IE set as the default browser. NetZero is just an ISP I thought, you don't have any software installed from Netzero do you?

You may want to try running Ad-aware to be sure there isn't any trojans or malware installed that wants IE as the default for everything.

Hello, yes Netzero does have software :( However in thier FAQ's it says that you can use other browsers and not just IE, but that (the NZ software) it what is causing it to go back to IE. When you load the software it dials up, upon connection it loads IE and a Netzero toolbar. I know that I have tried in the past to dial up with the program in windows but for some reason it would not work :(
