using foreign iTunes stores

Why won't iTunes let me buy music from other country's iTunes stores. The only way I can purchase music is through the U.S. iTunes store.

Unfortunately, the U.S. store doesn't have all the music I want.

So for example I can open up the iTunes store for another country, and browse the music selections I want to get from them, but it won't let me make any purchases from the foreign store.

Is there a way around this problem?

In order to buy from any given country's iTunes Music Store you must be able to show some form of residency which would be either:

a) a credit card with a billing address in that country, or

b) a mailing address in that country and a gift certificate or a prepaid card that was bought in that country.

If you cannot fulfill one of these two sets of conditions, you will not be able to purchase from any given country's iTMS.

.......this is due to restrictions placed on Apple by the record companies and other rights holders (who are often completely different from country to country and so all require their own individual negotiations and contracts), not by Apple's choice.

So it is put on by the music companies not Apple.

Just out of curiosity, are you able to tell what country you are trying to buy iTunes from?

Norway and Sweden.

I tried, I really, really tried to pay for the songs I wanted on the up and up.

Exasperated, I finally Googled around and found the songs I wanted as free downloads, which worked fine. I'm happy I finally got the songs I wanted.

Don't know if what I ended up doing was technically legal or not, but I would have been more than happy to pay for them.

I've done something similar. I have songs on LP (long play records/vinyl) that probably a lot of the younger members have never seen. I bought a bit of hardware to rip my songs on the computer. I never got it to work. I went back and forth with emails from tech support for the company and nothing worked. So, I went to YouTube, found some songs I already own, downloaded and converted to mp3 and dragged them to my Sansa Clip+ so I can listen to them. I refuse to buy again the songs I already own on vinyl.
