Using Knoppix

I'm having aproblem with a notebook. It won't load windows, so I used a Knoppix cd to boot now that i'm in there, is there a way to fix windows? (I don't have a windows xp home cd) I was trying to get on line with it and run a virus scan using my cable modem but I can't seem to connect. It's not my notebook so I don't know much about it, or how to set it up to connect to the internet. Any suggestions? How are you connecting to the internet? Dialup, DSL, Cable, Wired or Wireless?

On a wired broadband connection, Knoppix should be online when it finishes booting unless you have something very obscure in the way of a network Card. If its wireless, Knoppix is fairly selective on cards it supports. The best current PCMCIA card I'm aware of for Knoppix is a 802.11b/g with the Atheros chip. This would be like the Linksys WPC55AG or the TrendNet TEW-441PC.

If your on dialup, I'm afraid I'm lost. I've never tried dialup with Linux.

 

It's my daughters notebook and I've never used it here before, but I connect using a cable modem connected to my pc through the usb port. I disconnected from my pc and plugged it into the notebook and restarted Knoppix, but i still couldn't get online.

sorry about that, I thought that if i put knoppix in the title (since I was now able to get into it), it would draw the attention of the knoppix guys, since I'm trying to get this fixed before she goes back home tomorrow.
