Using local HTML as desktop w/Vista?

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

On all of my XP machines, I use a hand-written web page as my desktop, which contains links to the roughly 100 sites that I visit on a regular basis...to do this, I just open Display Properties / Desktop / Customize Desktop / Web, and then point to the local HTML file...

There seems to be no way to do this with Vista (in my case, it's Home Premium) - Personalize / Desktop Background just leads me to image files...

What am I missing, or is this even possible with Vista?

I'm not sure it's possible with vista, being that this was a sore spot with windows' security. I'm not seeing it in windows 7 (which is just like vista) but maybe if you turn Aero off, or choose a non-aero theme, it will let you?

Tried the Active Desktop replacement, but the .exe cannot open the hook it needs to operate, at least on this machine...I'll try it later on my home machine ( <sshhh - I'm at work> ) ...

I'll also try turning Aero off, see if that'll do it...

    Thanks, guys...

Just turned off the Aero interface, but there are still no options to point to a local file (other than image files)...again, I'll try the Active Desk rep. later, but I'm certainly not going to spend a lot of time on this - I can always use the local HTML file as my Firefox start page...

    Thanks again...

Never could get the 'Active Desktop Replacement' to work correctly, so I've abandoned the desktop idea (for now)...

Thought I'd post a shot of what my custom home page looks like...

All of the links are 'target_blanks', so everything opens in new windows: this method works with various browsers, and is extremely efficient and helpful as a start page - much easier than having to scroll down a lengthy bookmarks menu...

I also have this page loaded in the 'public_html' folders of a couple of the websites I'm maintaining: if I go on a service call, and if the computer I'm working on has internet access, then I can pull up this page as a ready repository of download, scanner and troubleshooting links...

thats pretty cool. I just use the bookmarks pane. It helps if you have a widescreen monitor, and i just leave the bookmark pane open on the left hand side. I just organize by folders. I also use yahoo bookmarks, for when I'm not at my computer.
