I was just trying to figure out what kind of Server Yahoo web-based e-mail uses HTTP or POP3. I just wanted to use OutLook with Yahoo like I did with my hotmail account.

How do I find out what my Incoming and outgoing mail server is?

I was using my hotmail account until recently when I went over their crappy 2 MB limit. Now I can’t send e-mail or receive or anything

    Reply from yahoo chat:

"You can use a utility over at www.majorgeeks.com which will allow you to check your free yahoo web based email with Outlook Express..... in the email tools sectionl"

I went to the email tools section and there are a lot of them thought someone might know which one it is?

Well I read the help I think I did it right this is what I did:

    YPOPs! and Outlook Express 6

    1. Select "Accounts..." from the "Tools" menu. 2. Click "Add" button and select "Mail...". 3. Enter your name and click "Next". 4. Enter your email address and click "Next". 5. Set "My incoming mail server is a" to POP3. 6. Set "Incoming (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) mail server" to "localhost". 7. Set "Outgoing (SMTP) mail server" to "localhost" and click "Next". (Note that SMTP is disabled by default in YahooPOPs.) 8. Set "Account name:" to your Yahoo! login. 9. Set "Password:" to you Yahoo! password and hit "Next". 10. Hit "Finish". 11. Click on new account named "localhost" and hit "Properties". 12. Rename account to "YahooPOPs" or something nice. 13. Select "Servers" tab. 14. Check "My server requires authentication". 15. Select "Advanced" tab. 16. Change "Server Timeouts" to Long - 5 minutes. 17. You may wish to select "Leave a copy of messages on server". This way the messages will not be deleted from Yahoo! when you download them. 18. You may wish to select "Remove from server when deleted from 'Deleted Items'". This way when you delete a message in OE and empty the trash it's deleted from Yahoo! as well. NOTE: This instruction set was provided by Angus Graham.

    But now its saying:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'YahooPOPs', Server: 'localhost', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Tired of troubleshooting this darn thing
I did everything by the numbers

The only thing I didn't do were steps 17 and 18 but only because you don't need to.

Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong now?

Do you have any kind of firewall? I use YahooPOPS and i had to make sure that it was set to access the internet, i also added 127.0.0.1 (localhost) to my trusted zone. I am using Zone Alarm 4.5xxx. Just a suggestion as to something to check out.

That could be all it is, all this troubleshooting has got me flustered.
I have SP2 Now all I have to do is figure out how the heck I'm gonna get around it. I might be able to but I'm not sure.

The big question is... Did you pay for yahoo plus? yahoo requires you to pay $19.99 per year to be able to access your yahoo mail via outlook or any other email software besides their web mail.

Nope it looks like its gonna give me a hard time. I went into windows firewall and added the program Yahoo Pops! and the port 110 under exceptions tab nota.

I hope this it the right port to add

Wait never mind oh boy was this a blonde moment jeezz

I never opened the program Oh man

I had to open the program and agree, then it appeared in the Taskbar now it works fine

Man its a good thing they don't have pc bloopers cause that would have made the top 10

I don't know what you mean I just downloaded all my e-mail just fine with yahoo pops using Outlook express 6 never had to pay anything.

Now as far as being able to send email with yahoo pops in outlook remains to be seen but it downloaded it just fine.

if you aren't paying yahoo $19.99 per year. you don't have access to pop3 mail. you may have been lucky in getting it downloaded but their system wont let you use it without paying unless you access your mail from their web interface.

Just as I was affraid of right when I thought everything was going to work.

It downloads my email just fine but when I try to send email it says the same thing it did before (further back in the thread.) Except that it uses a different port 25 instead of 110 and I'm still not sure if these are the right ports.
But I did add another exception for the outgoing port 25 maybe I'll have to restart for the firewall to kick in

I figured it out I went into configure pops and all I had to do was enable Enable SMTP: 25 and outlook sent my e-mail :)
    thanks for the help
